The perfect set-up for minimalists. The new Shorty starter housing is a typical form-meets-function design, smaller or electric start with less bulk is technically not possible. The BDL Shorty Drive kit comes with a rear pulley plate with starter housing, rear pulley with the BDL Balls lock-up clutch, starter gear cover, rear pulley cover, front pulley and belt. This 2″ electric start belt drive kit is designed to be used on 70-78 Shovelhead models with the ratchet top type 4-speed transmission, with rear chain only. Modifications are necessary to install this kit. Amongst others: When fitted to FX models, the oil tank bracket must be cut to allow proper fitment of the starter. On FL models this modification is not necessary. On both FL, FX models a L79-86 clutch arm (MCS 516400, OEM 37054-79A) must be used. Some clearancing work on this arm is needed. Note: A BDL starter is available as 518658. Any other 89-93 model starter motor can also be used, as long as it has stock dimensions.

With ball bearing lock up clutch. No oil filter. The Street Drive is, and has been, the standard in 3″ open drives for years. Complete with the performance proven standard BDL (ETC) clutch. With 72-47 drive ratio. Note: On 86-88 Softail models that originally are equipped with the old style ‘separate solenoid’ starter, modifications are necessary. These include a transmission housing (opening up the starter hole to 2-1/8″) and clutch release arm modification to install the new (91-93) style starter that is needed with this kit.
